Midtjylland, who went into last season as Danish champions, found themselves somewhat hampered domestically by their surprisingly length continental involvement. They made it all the way to the knockout rounds of the Europa League, but their form in the Danish Superliga suffered as a result.

After they were knocked out by Manchester United their form returned to it’s best, and they ended the season having won seven of their last 11 games and only losing once. It wasn’t enough to make up for their earlier failures though, and they eventually finished in 3rd position, 12 points adrift of winners Copenhagen.

Their Europa League campaign is in it’s infancy at the moment, but their 2-2 draw with Vaduz on Thursday saw them progress to the 3rd qualifying round with a 5-2 aggregate victory. Prior to this they beat Suduva 2-0 on aggregate, but their opening league fixture saw them fail to beat Randers with a 2-2 draw at home.

Nordsjaelland struggled themselves in the Superliga last season. They won the Superliga title as recently as 2012, but the whole of last term was a struggle and they eventually finished in 9th position with just 38 points from their 33 games. This put them 21 points behind Midtjylland and 33 off the top spot.

They did kick the new campaign off with a bang though as they romped to a 4-0 win at Viborg last weekend to put them joint top of the table after gameweek one. Their lack of European involvement could give them the edge over Midtjylland as well.

Both of these teams have had some success going forward at the start of this season as well as during pre-season and towards the end of last season. This has resulted in some high scoring affairs, with ten of Nordsjaelland’s last 14 matches seeing at least three goals scored and nine of Midtjylland’s last 14. This includes the 4-1 win for Midtjylland over Nordsjaelland at the end of last season, so we could be in for a treat here. My prediction is for Over 2.5 Goals at 19/20, and I’m backing Midtjylland to get the win with a 2-1 correct score prediction at 17/2.

Nordsjaelland have won four and lost two of their last six meetings with Midtjylland.

Nordsjaelland have seen Over 2.5 Goals in 71% of their last 14 matches, whilst Midtjylland have in 64% of their last 14.

Central midfielder Lasse Petry is out after undergoing a knee operation.

Defensive midfielder Tim Sparv is the only absentee confirmed for Midtjylland.
