Partick Thistle are one of the few top flight sides who have managed to avoid a slip-up against lower league opponents so far. They’ve won all 3 group games but they did have to work hard for their first two victories winning 1-0 at Airdrie and 2-1 at home to Queen of the South thanks to a stoppage time goal from Stephen Lawless. Their 4-1 win at Stenhousemuir in midweek means they are assured of at least 2nd place but given that’s not necessarily enough to qualify they will be keen to eek out at least another point that would guarantee they finish top.

Their opponents are technically still in the competition but can’t win the group and even a victory at Motherwell is highly unlikely to see them progress. They’d have had slightly more chance had they not lost a penalty shoot-out against Airdrie on Tuesday following an entertaining 3-3 draw but they have won their only away game so far, a 2-0 win at Stenhousemuir.

This though will clearly be a far stiffer challenge for the side that were only promoted from League Two into League One last season. In reality they will already be turning their attention to the new league campaign which starts next Saturday and they’ll want to avoid a heavy defeat here that could knock their confidence.

They should be able to do that too. Partick have been letting their lower league opponents have chances and they’ve conceded in their last two games but still won. Queen’s Park have netted 5 goals in their last two matches so they have every chance of grabbing a goal in this but Premiership quality should see the hosts finish the League Cup group phase with a 100% record and therefore backing Partick to Win & Both Teams to Score at 7/4 looks to be where the value is here.

Partick have won all of the last 6 meetings. They were 5-4 winners when the sides last met in a 2012 Challenge Cup tie.

Including a friendly with Morton, Partick have won all of their last 4 matches but conceded in 3 of them. Queen's Park have scored at least once in 8 of their last 10 away games.

Mathias Pogba may keep his place here after impressing in the competition so far. Adebayo Azeez is also hoping for more game time following his move from Wimbledon.

Queen's Park may rotate their team a bit with Challenge Cup action next week and the new league season commencing the following weekend.
